What a fifth and final game of a wild German Beko BBL playoffs! Brose Baskets Bamberg held off Deutsche Bank Skyliners from Frankfurt 72-70 to capture the third German league crown in club history and first ever double.
Chris Fleming’s Bamberg – who won the German Cup in April – got out to a big lead at 22-8 and it was down to 22-17 and 26-20. And Bamberg regained a comfortable cushion at 41-29.
But Frankfurt fought their way back into the game and pulled within 65-64. They would struggle at the line with Reese and Doliboa both missing two foul shots and then watched as Anton Gavel nailed a three-pointer for a 68-64 lead.
Pascal Roller would answer with a three ball of his own only to miss a foul shot later which could have knotted the game at 71. And Tibor Pleiss would hit the final free throw with 5.3 seconds – and the victory.
Bamberg add the 2010 title to their crowns from 2005 and 2007 and will play next season in the Euroleague.
