Macedonia are continuing their run at the 2011 EuroBasket with Bo McCalebb hitting a game winning layup in their 65-63 victory over Georgia. heinnews’s David Hein talked to McCalebb after the game and asked about Macedonia being underdogs and playing with a chip on their shoulders.

heinnews: Congrats Bo, you made the big layup and Macedonia are now 3-0 in the second round Group F. What are your thoughts?

McCalebb: I’m glad we were the team in the end that got the play. It was a tough game, Georgia is a good team even though they were without their top player. They were tough. They fought to the end and it came down to the last possession.

heinnews: You guys play efficient basketball, don’t turn it over and play tough defense. How far are you guys going to go?

McCalebb: Right now we’re just going to take one game at a time. We’re in a tough group with Russia and Slovenia. It’s a tough group so we just have to take one game at a time, rest tomorrow and be ready for the next game.

heinnews: Slovenia are next. What do you think about Slovenia?

McCalebb: Every team up to this point is a tough team. We just have to be ready to play and fight like we did against the other teams.

heinnews: You guys fight and are fearless, talk about your team, the spirit.

McCalebb: I think it’s that way because nobody expected us to do anything. Everybody was talking about the other teams. And nobody mentioned us. And we’re playing with a chip on our shoulders. That’s why we’re at this point now.

heinnews: Do you really feel like underdogs? And if nobody wants to take you seriously, then okay you guys will go to the Olympics.

McCalebb: Yeah but it’s good that way. We play with no pressure. We just come out and play free.

heinnews: What do you think when you hear top six?

McCalebb: Like I said, one game at a time. We can’t think about that right now.  We have to go one game at a time.

heinnews: Anyone back in New Orleans watching this?

McCalebb: I don’t know if they’re watching it. I don’t know if it’s on TV. But I’ll call somebody and ask them.

heinnews: What do you think about these vuvuzela noise makers out here?

McCalebb: The Georgian fans are good. Georgia play with a lot of energy. So it’s good.

heinnews: What is it like for you to be here at the EuroBasket?

McCalebb: I just love playing basketball. This is what I do for a living. And I have fun any time I’m on the court. And I’m just happy to be here.

heinnews: You go back to Skopje whenever you can. What kind of feeling do you have there?

McCalebb: It’s great there. I know a lot of the people with the federation. The fans are great. It’s great there.

It is not MACEDONIA it is F.Y.R.O.M.
I think you have to open up a book or check WikiPedia to get it right!
Macedonia was there from the ancient times when FYROM didn’t exist and there were no SLAVS .The northern part of Macedonia is now FYROM and the east south and west is in Greece and has been for along time before the slavs moved in and took the Northern part! The ancient capital city of Macedonia is in Pella just outside of Thessaloniki and the biggest part of Macedonia is in GREECE!

Hi Sakis, I respect your opinion and you may be correct. But I work as a journalist for a number of news agencies and next to none of them would ever publish that name. So in that regard, once all of the news outlets throughout the world start using FYROM, then we will as well. This is NOT a political statement. So please do not take it that way. Thanks for reading the site and making a comment.

O.K Dave , I also respect your answer, but since it’s a historical matter I think people should start publishing the official name that is given to them, because it’s not fair for us living in central Macedonia(the Greek part).
I understand it’s hard to put yourself in this position.
Thanks, and keep up the good job that you are doing here on this site!
